Job Opening: Recreation Department Athletics Coordinator

The Bowdon Recreation Department is accepting applications for the position of Athletics Coordinator. Starting salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Mowing and preparing fields and other areas for practice and play.
  • Supervises recreational programs and activities for youth and adults.
  • Ensures that the general public follows safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains, repairs, distributes, and collects athletic equipment.
  • Attends Georgia Recreation and Parks Association and West Georgia Youth Sports League meetings.
  • Coach and officiate athletic events if needed.
  • Attends training classes and rules clinics.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by recreation director.

Knowledge required for this position:

  • Turf and maintenance requirements
  • Rules and regulations of a variety of sports
  • Department activities, programs, and safety regulations
  • First aid and CPR
  • Utilizing a variety of athletic equipment
  • Operating a motor vehicle and ground maintenance equipment such as a tractor, spray equipment, lawn mower, weed eater, and field lining equipment
  • Use of general office equipment
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and oral and written communication

Supervisory Controls: 

The Recreation Director assigns work in terms of general instructions.

Guidelines:

Guidelines include the rules of various sports, Georgia Recreation and Parks Association guidelines, National High School Rules and Regulations, American Sports Association Regulations, and Department and Safety Guidelines.

Complexity:

The work consists of related duties in conducting adult and youth recreation programs.

Scope & Effect:

The purpose of this position is to assist with the provision of adult and youth athletic program to the general public.

Personal Contacts:

Contacts are typically with co-workers, coaches, program participants, vendors, and the general public.

Physical Demands:

The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects. Must be able to life a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Work Environment:

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
